People are willing to go to some pretty extreme lengths to lose a few pounds; it’s just the truth—but if you’re looking to shed some of that fat, you have to be sure that you’re doing it safely.  There are tons of plans that will help you shed some wait, and shed it fast, but they’re not typically the most healthy things that you can do to your body.  Take, for example, the lemonade diet, which has pulled in tons of followers in recent years.  If you’re thinking about adopting this diet yourself, then you’ll want to take a few things into consideration.

If you don’t think that a human being could live off of lemonade—and solely this beverage— then you’ve identified one of my major problems with this “plan”.  Granted, I understand that you’re not actually drinking a sugary, soda-like beverage to lose weight.  That, I understand entirely.  What you are drinking, though, is a nasty mix of cayenne pepper, maple syrup, lemon juice, and water.

According to the theory, you get enough vitamin C from the cayenne and lemon juice; you get enough carbs from the maple syrup; you get enough water from the, well, water—but do you really think that you’d like to live that way?  Does it sound like it would hurt?  Good, because it will.  Despite what they say, the lemonade diet recipe is not going to deliver the nutrients that your body needs to function.  Your body can scrape by and make the most of what it’s got, but that’s basically what it has to do when you’re—oh, I don’t know, starving.

The point that I’m getting to, reader, is that there are better diet recipes out there that won’t make you feel so awful.  If you’re looking to shed weight in a sustainable way, then you’re simply going to have to eat healthier and stay active.  That’s the only real way to lose weight.  You’d also do yourself well to remember that not everyone is supposed to be bone-thin.  Each and every individual has a unique threshold of optimal weights—weights at which the metabolism can most effectively function.  If you’re inside of your target threshold, then you should be happy!  You’re nice and healthy, and that’s all you can ask for!

Go ahead and commit to losing some weight, but make sure that you’re not adopting a diet that’s going to hurt you in the end.

Some people are luckier than others when it comes to weight.  Some people—they can eat anything that they want to, and they just never seem to gain a pound.  Others—well, they cheat once and they wind up with five extra pounds of weight.  If you feel that you belong to the latter category of eaters, then you might want to start looking into some of the alternative diets that are out there.  Just be safe, and be sure that you’re doing your research before you radically change your lifestyle.  In the end, you’ll be able to find something that works for you.

Have you ever heard of the lemonade diet, reader?  It’s what you might call a “radical diet”, though it doesn’t purport to be sustainable.  And really, it’s not about weight loss—well, not entirely, at least.  Essentially, this diet of lemonade requires that you consume a particular drink in place of your meals—all of your meals.  The intended affect of the drink is the purification of the body.  If you drink enough of this stuff, it’s supposed to clear all of the “toxins” out of your body, thereby boosting your metabolism.

So, what goes into this concoction?  Simply put, here’s the lemonade diet recipe: cayenne pepper, lemon juice, maple syrup, and water.  The syrup is supposed to give you all of the carbs that you need; the lemon juice, of course, is supposed to prevent you from getting scurvy; the cayenne pepper acts as a natural “flushing” agent, getting rid of the aforementioned “toxins”.  Though scientists don’t have much to say about this plan, many people purport that it works wonders on the body and soul (they really do swear by it).

Of course, before you take on these diet recipes, you have to be sure that you really understand what you are getting yourself into.  Before you launch your new plan, be sure that you have a little visit with your doctor to make sure that you’re not going to hurt yourself.  Be sure that you are in good health, and be sure that you actually do need to lose weight (i.e. make sure that you’re not suffering from body dismorphia).  These steps, of course, are what I mean when I say that you have to “do your research” before launching into such a life-altering plan.

If it sounds like you’re going to benefit from this plan, have a blast!  Lose that weight!

If I go on a low carb diet, will it lower the amount of good bacteria in my gut?

Also, if I take probiotics, will they be able to be sustained in my gut on a low carb diet or will the probiotics be ineffective in providing benefits if I am on a low carb diet?

    Thanks.

I have been on a low carb diet for seven months and I’ve lost 25 lbs. I have pleateued at the same weight for about 3 months. I want to try and exercise more but I find I have no energy to run as much as I used to before low carb. I also miss fruits and whole grains, such as cereal, and I need more fiber in my diet (its very hard to use the bathroom on low carb if you know what I mean). I know I lost weight on low carb and I’m scared to death if I switch back I will regain. I’m just so confused! And if I do add carbs back should I still limit them? Like only at breafkast and lunch? Someone who is nowledgeable please help!! Thanks so much.
